macOS 11 - Big Sur will Big Surely WOW you!

Today at 1:00am EST, Apple will release their next big operating system to users that have an Apple computer like an iMac, MacBook Pro, or a macMini. macOS 11 Big Sur is here, and it is spectacular! So, what is Big Sur and why is it so important. I'm happy to explain. Back in March of 2001, Apple released OSX (10) Cheetah, which was a significant move from mac OS 9 both in technology and in marketing. As the years rolled on by, Apple provided semi-annual releases of their now big hit OS. Primarily using exotic cat names from 2001 through 2012, Apple's OS was widely accepted and became extremely popular with the masses. We got Jaguar, Panther, Lion, Mountain Lion and even Snow Leopard! In 2013, Apple ditched the exotic cat names and went to home state California for it's code names and the macOS for personal computers continued to evolve alongside Apple's other mobile products like the iPhone and iPad. Mavericks, Yosemite, El Capitan, we even got to Catalina. Now, we are about to dive (or drive) into Big Sur.

mac OS 11 is a significant update to the popular Apple Operating System, with hundreds of obvious as well as subtle changes. Let's take a closer look here at what macOS 11 Big Sur is all about, and let's answer the question "Should I upgrade to macOS Big Sur?"

First, you may want to know where Big Sur is in Cali, and what it looks like:

Here is a video review of macOS 11 Big Sur and some of the new features:

This website really breaks down macOS 11 Big Sur and discussed the features in more detail:

macOS Big Sur is compatible with most 2013 and later machines.

One thing you must know about macOS Big Sur is that, like macOS 10.15 Catalina, Big Sur will only run 64 bit applications. It will not run 32 bit applications like MS Office 2011, or older versions of Adobe CS or Adobe CC Apps.

You can check if your mac is running any key 32 bit applications by doing the following:

  1. Click on the black Apple logo in the upper left-hand corner.

  2. Click on System Preferences

  3. Click on System Report in the Overview tab.

  4. Next got to Software>Applications and look to the far right tab.

It's safe to say that if you have a Mac that was purchased after 2014, and you do not run any 32 bit Apps on your Mac, then you can and should upgrade to macOS 11 Big Sur.
